Who Is Animal Aid?

Animal Aid is a registered non-profit, no-kill, animal rescue and outreach organization serving the Portland Metro area since 1969. We are actively fundraising and seeking resource growth in support of our vital services to our communities.

Our mission is to reduce animal birth rates and animal suffering through educating the public about spaying and neutering, offering assistance to community members who cannot afford urgent veterinary care, and finding permanent homes for animals in our care, including those with special needs (see our Heartstrings program). We house cats in our free-roam shelter and dogs (and a few cats) in loving foster homes.

Fireworks are NOT fun for your pets!

Plea from the Webmaster

Every year the number of pets posted to our Lost-and-Found Bulletin Board spikes in the week surrounding the Fourth of July – please don't make me add your pet to the list this year!

CLICK HERE to read Jacques Von Lunen's report in The Oregonian on the effects of fireworks on Portland area pets, and how you can help them stay safe.

Animal Aid helps in areas not covered by other tri-county agencies. We are supported primarily through donations which are tax deductible and greatly appreciated.

It’s all in the “d' Tails!”

The Fourth of July – ahhh, the harbinger of summer days and time to relax and celebrate with good friends and family – including the four-legged members of the household. While it may seem like a great idea to reward your best friend withscraps from the grill and bring him along to watch fireworks, in reality some festive foods and products can be potentially hazardous to your pets. A Special Animal Aid Angel

Dr. Don McCoy, N Portland Veterinary HospitalWe refer to those people and businesses whose generosity keeps our programs strong as our "Angels". We simply can't thank them enough.

Veterinarian peering into a dog's ear using an otoscopeOne of our favorite angels is Dr. Don McCoy of the North Portland Veterinary Hospital.

Not only has he treated shelter animals over the years, when he learned that we needed specific pieces of medical equipment he arranged for a spectacular gift of over $2,000 worth of equipment from Welch Allyn. We are still in shock!
